This KingCamp blanket is an ultralight, multifunctional essential for campervan life. Perfect for warmth on the go, from picnics to chilly evenings.

Our Verdict

8.5/10
Despite a few grumbles about stitching and repacking, the overwhelming feedback is positive. This is a hugely practical, warm, and lightweight blanket that proves its worth across countless situations, making it a valuable addition to any camper's kit.

Consensus Verdict

4.3/5
(3,042 reviews)
After reading through hundreds of reviews and speaking with owners, the consensus is that this blanket delivers impressive warmth for how lightweight and packable it is. Campers consistently praise its quality and how it compresses down to save space in a backpack, though some find the slippery material makes it tricky to fold and get back into its storage bag.

This is a seriously versatile bit of kit, earning its spot in the van by being incredibly warm for how little it weighs. Customers consistently praise its excellent quality and how well it keeps the cold at bay, with one 5-star reviewer describing it as a "very light, very warm, well made" blanket . It packs down small enough to be tucked away without any fuss, making it a go-to for everything from chilly evenings by the van to extra warmth in bed.

Our Verdict

Who should buy this?

This is ideal for vanlifers and car campers who need a versatile, lightweight layer of warmth that won't eat up precious storage space. It’s perfect for throwing over your knees on a cold evening, adding to your sleeping bag for extra insulation, or taking to an outdoor event. As one reviewer noted, it was invaluable for watching an outdoor race in sub-zero temperatures .

Who should consider alternatives?

If you're a stickler for perfect craftsmanship, the inconsistent stitching mentioned in some reviews might be a deal-breaker . Likewise, if your main use is for hot summer nights, its lack of breathability could be an issue . Those who get easily frustrated with packing gear away might also struggle, as one user found it "impossible to re-pack" .

Value for money

This is where opinions are split. For many, the warmth, low weight, and versatility make it a worthwhile investment. However, some reviewers felt it was "a bit cher" (a bit expensive) , especially given the reports of poor stitching, which one buyer noted made it look like a "very cheap product" despite its price tag .

Our honest take

As a multi-purpose blanket to keep stashed in the van, this is a brilliant piece of gear. It’s the kind of thing you’ll find yourself reaching for constantly. While the stitching quality is a lottery and repacking is a bit of a wrestle, its core job – providing impressive warmth in a tiny package – is something it does exceptionally well. It’s a solid, practical addition for most campers.

How Well Is It Built?

TL;DR

Built from a water-repellent and tear-resistant 20D Nylon, this blanket feels soft and similar to a modern quilted jacket. While many reviewers praise its quality and finish , a significant number report issues with very poor and inconsistent stitching, which detracts from the overall build quality .

Materials & Feel

The blanket is crafted from 20D Nylon, the same sort of material you'd find on a lightweight puffy jacket. It feels very soft and pleasant to the touch, as noted by several reviewers {{CITE:2, CITE:8}}. The fabric is also water-repellent, which is a massive plus for campsite use where morning dew or a light shower is always a possibility. One downside mentioned is that the material can be "too slippery to hold" when trying to fold it .

Build Quality & Durability

This is where the blanket gets mixed reviews. On one hand, you have buyers who describe it as "well made" with "excellent quality" and no loose threads . On the other hand, a recurring complaint is poor craftsmanship. One 1-star review highlighted that the "stitching was falling out before I even had a chance to use it" . Even a 5-star review conceded that the "stitching isn’t the neatest" . This inconsistency is a definite drawback and suggests quality control could be better.

How Does It Perform?

TL;DR

Performs exceptionally well as a lightweight insulator, providing warmth comparable to a quality sleeping bag in a small, packable form . It excels in cool conditions but can lack breathability on warmer nights . Some users also find it very difficult to get back into its storage sack .

Warmth & Insulation

When it comes to keeping you warm, this blanket punches well above its weight. The Warm Loft fibre fill does an excellent job of trapping heat. Reviewers are consistently impressed, describing it as delivering "warmth like a good quality light weight sleeping bag" . It's proven its worth in properly cold conditions, with one user finding it incredibly effective in sub-zero temperatures at an outdoor event in Japan . For adding a serious boost of warmth in the van, on the sofa, or around the campfire, it's a top performer.

Packability & Portability

Weighing only 0.6 kg and packing down into a small stuff sack, it’s a brilliant space-saver. It compresses well, taking up very little room in a backpack or van cupboard . However, getting it back into that small stuff sack can be a real battle. One 3-star reviewer stated it was "impossible to re-pack" due to the slippery material . While it packs down small eventually, it’s not a quick and easy job.

Weather Resistance & Breathability

The water-repellent finish is effective against dew and light moisture. A reviewer confirmed it didn't suffer from condensation even in minus temperatures . The flip side of this weather resistance is a lack of breathability. As one 4-star review points out, this can be a "downer... on hot summer nights" , making it feel a bit clammy.

What Features Stand Out?

TL;DR

Standout features include the integrated snap buttons, which allow the blanket to be worn as a hands-free poncho or shawl for campsite convenience. When packed in its stuff sack, it's also compact enough to serve as a handy travel pillow or seat cushion .

Wearable Design

One of the most practical features is the set of snap buttons along the edges. This clever addition allows you to fasten the blanket around your shoulders, turning it into a poncho or shawl. This is incredibly useful for keeping warm while keeping your hands free – perfect for holding a cuppa or a book on a chilly evening at the campsite. One reviewer specifically mentioned the buttons were practical for their intended use .

Stuffsack & Pillow Function

The included stuff sack does a good job of compressing the blanket for storage. As a bonus, once it's packed away, the compact bag can double up as a small travel pillow or a seat cushion, which a 5-star reviewer found to be a handy secondary use . It's a bit small for a proper pillow, but for a quick nap in the passenger seat or a bit of extra comfort on a hard bench, it does the job.

Budget-Conscious Campers

Consider Carefully

"It's warm and light, but for the price, I'd expect the stitching to be perfect. It feels like a bit of a gamble on quality."

What They Love
  • Provides good warmth for the weight
  • More versatile than a basic fleece
Considerations
  • Price feels high for some
  • Risk of receiving one with poor stitching

How Does It Compare to Alternatives?

TL;DR

Against alternatives like fleece blankets or full sleeping bags, this quilt carves a useful niche. It offers far more warmth and packability than fleece, with one reviewer comparing its insulation to a lightweight sleeping bag , but provides more freedom and versatility for general campsite lounging.

This KingCamp blanket sits in a sweet spot between a standard fleece blanket and a technical sleeping bag. It's significantly warmer and more weather-resistant than your average fleece, and packs down much smaller. While it's not a full replacement for a sleeping bag in cold conditions, it offers warmth that one reviewer compared to a "good quality light weight sleeping bag" but with the versatility of being an open quilt. It's a great choice for those who find sleeping bags too restrictive or want a single item that can serve as bedding, a sofa throw, and a wearable layer.

Very light, very warm, well made

Excellent quality light, warm blanket. No loose threads and measurements are as advertised. I don’t intend to use as a pillow (rather small beyond perhaps as a travel pillow) or as a sleeping bag - poppers are too far apart really. As a blanket it’s fine. I’ll use for Niadra Yoga (relaxation) but also over the floor of my tent under my sleeping mat to decrease heat loss and give additional protect...

Perfect

Warmth like a good quality light weight sleeping bag, in size that packs away small. The stitching isn’t the neatest, but it will do what I need and is very soft.

Useful for hot summer hikes g stopovers.

Made of the same material as those quilted jackets we're all wearing. It's very lightweight and packs away small. The only downer is it can lack breathability on hot summer nights.

Nice and light to carry, but impossible to re-pack

Firstly, the pro's, very light, good stitching and a decent size - oh and I love the shade of blue! The cons: Too slippery to hold. Impossible to handle when trying to fold up and re-pack in the storage bag (and won't go back in the storage bag). I should also mention it was so tightly packed it took me literally 5 minutes to get it out of the storage bag when it arrived, now I can't get it back i...

Very poor quality stitching

Stitching was falling out before I even had a chance to use it. Looks a very cheap product, but sadly wasn't cheap to buy. At nearly £30 for a small blanket that is advertised as suitable for outdoor activity I was expecting significantly better. Not durable at all, the material is incredibly thin a small twig would rip it and as said previously the stitching has already come loose.
