Amdro Alternative Campervans, established in 2004 in North Wales, specializes in designing and manufacturing simple, practical, and responsible removable campervan conversion units.
Amdro Alternative Campervans, founded in 2004 by Design Engineer Iwan Roberts, is a North Wales-based company passionate about design, the outdoors, and the environment. Roberts, with a degree in industrial design and extensive experience in motorhome and caravan design, established Amdro to create alternative campervan units. The company is particularly known for inventing the 'boot jump' camper conversion unit, which was launched in 2012 and allows cars to be transformed into campers in minutes. Amdro prides itself on innovation, leading the way in alternative campervan design with a focus on simple, practical, and responsible solutions.
The company designs and manufactures removable modular systems, primarily focusing on units that fit into various car-based vans. Their product range includes the 'boot jump' (offering seating, cooking, and sleeping arrangements), 'boot bed' (a simple bed platform), and 'Kombi Bed' for VW Transporters. These units are crafted in-house in Caernarfon, North Wales, using high-quality, sustainably sourced PEFC FSC Latvian Birch plywood with a UV stable heat-pressed finish. Amdro aims to reduce waste by using recyclable and renewable materials, supporting UK manufacturing, and designing products to be durable and multi-purpose.
Operating as a family business, Amdro is deeply rooted in its Welsh heritage, with its name 'am dro' translating to 'going for a leisurely spin/walk.' Beyond their conversion units, the company has also developed Glan Morfa Eco Campsite in Caernarfon, offering pitches and glamping units, further extending their commitment to outdoor enjoyment and sustainable practices. Amdro's expertise lies in producing innovative, lift-in camper conversion modules that provide freedom to explore without requiring a full, permanent vehicle conversion.

I'm really delighted with my Amdro Boot Jump that converts my Vauxhall Combo into a micro camper whenever I want to head off for a bit of camping. The design detail is a joy - practical, beautiful and made from sustainable materials. It cost a bit more than other models but you get what you pay for - in my view it's great value for money. I've already enjoyed a couple of trips and I'm looking forward to many more.
We booked our stay via AirBnB. Everything was great. Beautiful, secluded space near the river. Ideal to relax in peace with a real fire.
Visited with the MoHo. Good little place for a night or two when visiting Caernarfon. Nice walk into town along the (heritage) railway line. You don’t have to walk beside the roads (for long). Room for five or six units, three with electric, so book in advance. A place for waste and a hose for fresh water. Compostable toilet should you not have onboard facilities. They are building a new toilet (and shower?) block so even better. Nice place.
What a great place, can do nothing but relax listening to the water running in the distance, weir to swim, fresh eggs, lovely hosts. Enh & facilities.
Great site, quiet 15 mins walk to the Castle.
