It is great to be able to support a local company. Smart Campers were friendly and helpful during my motorhome purchase. Service was excellent from start to end, including after sales.
I've used Motorhome Centre Scotland over the years for service and repair and always had great work from them. The quality of a repair in my Motorhome left it in better condition than it was delivered from the factory, really top quality work. Recently I used their brokerage service to sell my Motorhome and they achieved a much higher price than I expected. Even with there brokerage fee I still received more than I was planning to sell it for privately after researching the going rate for my model/age of MH. In order to provide a balanced review I should say that on the negative side they can be very busy, understandable since they are good at what they do. This means that often they don't return phone calls nor answer emails, so it seems better to turn up in person to speak to them.
I recently purchased a Motorhome from Swinton and can only praise them from start to finish on the whole process. David, was excellent in selling us the vehicle over the phone, as I had to travel from London to Glasgow to collect the Motorhome, David arranged for his Mum Susan to collect me from the Airport, I then met Alan, Davids Dad in the office who was equally accommodating and insightful and even made me a lovely cup of Tea. Seeing the van and showing me around the Motorhome didn't disappoint me, David's Knowledge was invaluable in the whole process and certainly put my mind at ease. From start to finish this Family run Business was fantastic, it was a pleasure to have done business with them and would highly recommend them to anyone that requires a service from them. Many thanks for everything.
SmartCampers installs modern electronics to make off-grid living comfortable. Standard setups feature solar panels, built-in Bluetooth, and USB charging ports. This means drivers stay powered up anywhere. For driving safety, they add reversing cameras and parking sensors to both bumpers. In practice, navigating a large vehicle through tight Glasgow streets becomes much easier. They focus on practical upgrades over flashy gimmicks.
They work primarily with popular medium and large wheelbases. Volkswagen Transporters and Ford Transit Customs dominate the workshop floor. As a result, the crew knows these layouts perfectly. They occasionally tackle Mercedes Sprinters or Fiat Ducatos for clients needing extra headroom or [campervan shower cubicles](/services/shower-cubicles). For most builders, sticking to proven base vehicles guarantees better parts availability. This approach keeps maintenance costs down later.
Prices range from £15,000 to £35,000 depending on the exact specifications. SmartCampers builds custom interiors. Consequently, costs fluctuate based on chosen materials and complex electrical systems. A basic weekend setup costs significantly less than a full off-grid expedition rig. To help manage this expense, the company offers staged payment plans. Customers pay a deposit upfront. Later installments are tied directly to specific construction milestones.

Very pleased and impressed with the warranty work recently carried out on our Globe Traveller. Some by factory engineers but completed by the guys at Smart Campers. All to a very high standard and kept me informed throughout. Thanks for a great job.
A GREAT FIND Many years ago when searching for a place where our second-hand motorhome could be serviced, we discovered SmartCampers in Glasgow, a long way from our home........but it was worth it and it proved to be a turning point in our lives. We were extremely satisfied with their work and customer service and eventually purchased a new Hobby campervan from them. Excited from the very start to take possession of our new campervan, David at SmartCampers went that extra mile for us and we found the hand-over extremely pain-free, carried out with endless patience and good humour. No question was considered too trivial! Several years down the line the SmartCampers team has enthusiastically looked after our campervan with excellent care and attention, carrying out the annual service as well as MOTs when appropriate. Occasionally we've bumped into other satisfied custormers in Reception who have willingly shared their very positive views with us, some coming from far afield. We can honestly say that the after-care service has been second to none, unlike some other dealerships where once they've got your money, have little interest in you, the customer. The team at SmartCampers has become our campervan family and we are always warmly welcomed when we visit. The friendliness of everyone makes it a very social experience, and this group of like-minded travellers has given us a great network of support and advice. We are happy to recommend SmartCampers to anyone seeking to purchase a campervan or motorhome. You will not be disappointed.
The workshop operates directly out of Glasgow, Scotland. However, they regularly build rigs for clients across the entire UK. Buyers often travel from England or Wales to collect finished vehicles. This means geographic distance rarely prevents someone from commissioning a new build. The team handles project updates digitally. They use video calls and shared photo folders. Clients stay completely involved without ever visiting the Scottish facility.
Yes, SmartCampers offers extensive customization for every project. Clients choose everything from cabinet finishes to upholstery fabrics. In practice, the design team guides buyers away from impractical layouts while accommodating specific needs. If a customer wants a [campervan fixed bed](/services/fixed-beds) instead of a rock-and-roll folding seat, the crew designs around that preference. The goal is crafting a functional living space. It must fit exact travel habits perfectly.
Absolutely. SmartCampers fits high-efficiency [campervan solar panels](/services/solar-panels) to almost every roof they build. They typically mount 150W to 300W panels paired with heavy-duty leisure batteries. This setup captures sunlight to run fridges, lights, and USB ports. Drivers rarely need to plug into campsite power. As a result, travelers can camp wild in the Scottish Highlands for days. The system charges automatically while driving or parked outside.
SmartCampers provides a comprehensive 12-month warranty on all craftsmanship. If a cabinet hinge loosens or a wire shorts, they fix it for free. Furthermore, fitted appliances like fridges and solar controllers carry manufacturer guarantees. These typically last between one and three years. The company also offers ongoing aftercare servicing. This ensures the electrical and gas systems remain safe long after the initial purchase.
The process begins with an initial consultation call. SmartCampers discusses travel goals, preferred base vehicles, and target budgets. Next, they draft a detailed design proposal. This document includes a complete cost breakdown. If the buyer approves, a deposit secures a production slot. Throughout the actual construction phase, the team sends regular, highly detailed video updates. Customers stay entirely informed. They watch the transformation from bare metal to final polish.
