Real reviews from real customers across the UK

"We hired Fox, a high top lwb VW from Vanquest and couldn’t have been happier with our experience! Amy was great, always responsive to our questions and emails in the lead up to the booking date. She was then on hand to take us through the basics of the Campervan, so by the end we felt confident we could survive for the 3 day hire! The van was immaculate and comfortable and the whole hire process painless! As newbees to the camping world, it was a great introduction and now we are looking to buy our own."

"I’m 8 months into owning my first camper. I chose Welsh Coast Campers because of personal recommendations. I had a few initial problems with a warning alert that came on . WCC couldn’t have been more helpful. They persevered and found it needed a system reset, which they payed for. Any query I’ve had they have been happy to take the time to answer, even the most mundane questions! I have been so impressed with the after care and would happily recommend them. The van is great and I love the freedom I have to explore . Oh and the dog loves it too!"

"Can not recommend Dory the camper enough! Chris and Stacey are so lovely. Communication from the beginning was brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble. We had the best weekend travelling to Scotland and we can’t wait to book Dory again. Also I cannot thank Chris and Stacey enough. We was late returning the van (agreed later drop off at an extra charge) instead of charging us the extra time Chris and Stacey wanted the money to be donated to Stroke association as they found out that I have had a stroke in the past and was doing a lot to raise awareness of stroke in young people. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Can’t wait to see you and dory again next year! Xx"

"We had a great weekend at Clippesby Hall, Norfolk for the 2022 Beer & Cider Festival, made even more pleasurable by the hire of Chelmer Valley Campers “Dory”. A great stylish van, that has and carry’s everything you need for a carefree chillin weekend or longer. Chris & Stacey of Chelmer Valley Camperes are brilliant, so helpful and great communication throughout and at the end of the phone if required. Would also add that the their hire rates for such a high spec van can’t be beat. Pro’s: Too many mention Cons: we had to return the van If we could give more stars, we would."

"We wanted to buy a camper van for our retirement however when researching we were somewhat underwhelmed with the quality and specification of prebuilt vans. Nothing met our needs and were all rather dull shades of beige. With the expense of purchasing a van being second to that of your mortgage we wanted to make sure we found the right business to build our van. We then discovered Vanlife Conversions in Colchester. I visited to see what they were about and within two weeks returned with my husband so he could see what all the excitement was about. Within a couple of hours we had paid our deposit for a build slot. Immediately I knew Ollie and Emily were the right team. You could feel it ! A small business bursting with pride , ethics of doing business well,  extensive skill within the team, knowledge and craftsmanship. I subsequently visited them team at an open day, prebuild planning and final van drop off. We even visited part way through the build to see the progress in the flesh ! A totally unique experience. Both Emily and Ollie were super supportive and helpful creating our plan, listening carefully to what we needed.  Their  knowledge of design and equipment was extensive. We decided on the Kunu design but asked for some amendments to meet the needs of my disability, travelling with 4 dogs and our love for cooking when away.  Dog gates and hooks were added along with an extra large bathroom, coffee machine, freezer and larger than standard fridge. Communication through the planning and build was exceptional and all amendments were meticulously  logged. Emails and calls were all responded to promptly. A few changes were made during the build which we were always made aware of. We made a couple of mid build  amends to the van which included the addition of side fins at the rear of the van. This have made a significant difference to the width of the bed as well as ventilation in the rear of the van. On reflection a good call. We also decided to add chunkier tyres to the van - WOW they look fantastic and finish off the van perfectly.  One of the best bits to the build was the weekly email on Friday which gave us an update on progress , photos and videos. We loved this ! We collected our van in June and was totally in awe with the build quality. The level of craftsmanship and attention to detail is unbelievable. It is truly beautiful. The wood work is flawless. All the equipment works really well. The shower is better than what you find in many holiday cottages and the addition of the drinking water taps saves us from carrying lots of bottled water. The electrical control panel is also easy to follow and understand. Ollie also spent an afternoon taking us through everything in the van as part of the handover. We have been on several trips as we gain experience of camping. We have just returned from 7 days off grid in north Wales. There was heavily rain and wind but the van insulation meant we had a good nights sleep. We also spent more time in the van which we enjoyed as it was well designed bright and spacious. The favourite spot in the van is the front passenger seat when it is turned around allowing you to sit with a small table as you gaze out of the van. The aftercare service is also exceptional and was a key attribute in our decision to have our van built with Vanlife Conversions. Ollie is on hand to support and help you with any queries. This has been hugely valuable for us as we have had a step but fun learning curve to van life ! So if you are thinking of having a bespoke van build - stop searching NOW and go with the team at Vanlife Conversions.  We cannot recommend Vanlife Conversions enough.  An exceptionally professional, passionate and skilled team with an eye for attention to detail who just love what they do. In addition they are very approachable, knowledgeable with great  communication, and have a flare to carefully listen to what you want.  They just love seeing their customers happy,  And finally, they are great folk to work with."

Nicki Baggott Vanlife Conversions Vanlife Conversions

"Thought I would wait 6 months after buying our converted campervan from Welsh Coast Campers before leaving a review. Discussed with Phil and Paul (owners) about what we needed, and wanted, from a van conversion - they made suggestions and listened to our requirements. They sought the van for us and we decided to go with their Signature conversion range, choosing our colours etc. It took 3 weeks from placing the order to delivery. We had a small snagging issue (a piece of faulty equipment) within the first week, but, to be fair, I’ve had more issues with new cars I have bought! Following an early morning phone call, Simon, the garage manager, was brilliant in organising a replacement that day. And Mark, the converter, was on hand to give us loads more advice… his knowledge and experience was invaluable. We are very happy with our campervan the service we have received. We would definitely use this company again in future."

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about campervan conversions in the UK

How much does a campervan conversion cost in the UK?

Campervan conversion costs in the UK typically range from £5,000 for a basic DIY setup to over £60,000 for a professional full conversion. Most professional conversions fall between £20,000 and £40,000, depending on the base van, level of finish, and features included. Use our free quote tool to get accurate estimates from local converters.

How long does a campervan conversion take?

A professional campervan conversion typically takes between 4 to 12 weeks, depending on the complexity of the build and the converter's schedule. Simple conversions may be completed in 2-4 weeks, while bespoke, high-end builds can take 3-6 months. Always discuss timelines upfront with your chosen converter.

What is the difference between a full and partial campervan conversion?

A full conversion includes everything needed for van life: insulation, electrics, plumbing, kitchen, bed, and storage. A partial conversion covers only specific elements, such as installing a pop-top, fitting a bed system, or adding solar panels. Partial conversions are ideal if you want to DIY some elements or have a smaller budget.

Do I need to provide my own van for conversion?

It depends on the converter. Many offer a "van supply" service where they source a suitable base van for you, while others prefer you to bring your own vehicle. Some converters specialise in specific van models (like VW Transporters or Mercedes Sprinters), so it's worth checking their expertise before committing.

How do I choose the right campervan converter?

Start by reading verified reviews and checking their portfolio of previous builds. Consider their location (easier for visits and warranty work), their specialisations, and their communication style. Request quotes from 3-5 converters, visit their workshops if possible, and ask for references from past customers. CamperBrain makes this easy by letting you compare converters in one place.
