Kent Poptops

Dan and his team have just completed the first phase of my conversion on my Vauxhall Vivaro. This phase included flooring/insulation/panelling to walls and roof/pop top/diesel heater/swivel seat/awning rail. Workmanship is excellent with everything finished neatly - it will be going back for the electrics/solar panel etc. they only had my van for a week, which was a far cry from the 10 weeks I’d been quoted by other builders. I don’t think you can go wrong with a conversion by Kent Pop Tops.

If we could give zero stars we would. My advice to anyone would be to avoid this Mickey Mouse operation at all costs. Kent Pop tops caused me and my partner more stress than any business ever has done previously. Right from our initial enquiry dealing with Dan at Kent Pop Tops was a nightmare. Good luck ever getting hold of this company by phone, they don’t answer, we must have tried to call twenty times, no one answered or called us back. Kent Pop tops installed a roof to our crafter which is intended for a ford transit custom. They also damaged our paintwork when it was in their possession and then had the nerve to deny it even after we produced photos of it at their workshop the day it was delivered clearly showing there was no damage. When we reached out to them to explain that the roof didn’t close properly and we were not prepared to make remittance until a reasonable solution had been agreed, they didn’t offer us a solution and proceeded to tell us we were handling stolen goods, that they’d contacted Kent police and then threatened to take us to court. The exact response was “regardless you still need to pay”. After a few weeks of back and forth and reaching a point where we both felt so stressed about it we just paid them to put a stop to it. We’ve been left with a roof that doesn’t close properly and a £1000 Thule awning which we can’t use as the pop top completely engulfs the entire roof. Kent Pop tops turned our dream conversion into a nightmare and at no point did they really accept their negligence or even offer an apology.

Kent pop tops do really nice designs and i like the aesthetic of the drivelodge pop top and photonic universe semi flex solar panel especially because i wanted to get into car parks under 2 meters however both failed and trying to get it sorted has been a real issue, the carpet lining / headlining has also failed and sagged.. and the thermal insulation / sound deadening has fallen off the van panels along with some other minor things that have also failed. Tried calling them a dozen or times and i've never managed to speak to them and all emails were ignored. it was only after speaking directly to the manufacturer of the pop top did I get to exchange a couple of whatsapp messages with Dan and was told it can be sorted in a couple of weeks... i kept chased a couple of more times and it's been a year now so i've had to drive up to Yorkshire to get it sorted. Despite the solar panel being under warranty i've had to purchase a replacement one... photonic universe weren't particularly helpful because they required a receipt, which i couldn't get because i couldn't get. Drivelodge on the other hand have been amazing and replaced my faulty roof and installed an upgraded one as well as the new solar panel free of charge.. Kent Pop Tops quoted me £250. Overall, if you decide to get a conversion done expect things to fall apart and not get any help or have it fixed under warranty if you are even lucky enough to speak to someone. Seems like all they need is some full time staff answering the phones / replying to emails. I wanted some more stuff done but will go elsewhere. I'd be happy to write a better review if they made things right buyt this is just my experience so far.

We recently got an upgrade to our camper van using Kent pop tops and we couldn’t be happier. We got a rollout awning, pop top with solar panel, diesel heater and a window added and had all the electrics upgraded as well. The communication was outstanding from Eddie with updates along the way via WhatsApp and full explanations allowing us to make clear decisions about what we wanted. We will definitely be back if we need any further updates. Thanks Eddie and Dan 😁

I recently used Kent Pop Tops to have my T6 kombi carpet lined. Dan was more than happy to show me around the workshop and view some of their rental vans (which look awesome!) which reassured me of the quality of their work. I dropped the van off and got a phone call towards the end of the next day saying it was ready - they went above and beyond what I was expecting and had been discussed - for example I wasn’t expecting the bulkhead to be carpeted but it has been. The quality of work is excellent and I am really pleased - the van has been transformed!
